Innkeepers and Staff at Phineas Swann

Welcome Into Our Home. We hope you will enjoy your time with us. We dreamed for many years of being innkeepers and when we found this town and this inn, we knew we had found just the right place.

If you feel comfortable and “at home” then we know we are doing something right. We enjoy nothing more than opening our home to others. We are all travelers of one sort or another and hope our guests feel our home is a safe haven where they know they are welcome and can be at ease.

We would like your days with us to be as enjoyable as our days here are. We would love to see you again and again, and we hope that in the future, we can consider you our good friends.

Sincerely,

Your hosts, John and Jay

John Perkins, Co-Innkeeper/Chef

John recently retired from a major international bank and traveled the world for his job, spending the past 20 years overseas. In each country where he lived, John studied local cooking techniques, and loves to try out new recipes on his favorite guinea pig: Jay. One look at Jay's chubby cheeks will show you how good his food can be.

Jay Kerch, Co-Innkeeper/Interior Decorator

And Lead Food Taster. Jay has spent over 25 years in retail sales, management, and interior design. As an avid antique collector since childhood, Jay spends many hours looking for just the right things with which to furnish the inn. He is the driving force behind the dog theme in our inn, and has over 4000 figures scattered throughout the rooms and shop. If you don't see your favorite breed, just ask, and you can be sure that he will be able to find it hidden somewhere about. Each recipe prepared by John was well tested by Jay in advance, so you can be sure you will not leave hungry.

Emmy, Housekeeper

Before John and Jay bought the inn, Emmy worked at The Phineas Swann Bed and Breakfast on and off for several years helping her sister in housekeeping. After her sister left, we hired Emmy on full time, and she is quite a help. She is a great mother of a ten year old daughter and a two year old son, so in addition to her work at the inn, you can imagine that she keeps very busy!

Karen and Jessica, Housekeepers

Karen has worked for us for over a year now, and we have also hired her daughter, Jessica. We are definitely a down home family business!! Not only does Karen work full time for us, but along with her husband, she raises 5 children at home. She's a great cook too!!

Mark, Maintenance and All-Around Handyman

Mark has been our handyman and maintenance person since we first purchased the inn. Anything that gets broken from melted remote controls, to frozen pipes, he can take care of. In the winter he plows and shovels and salts, and in the summer he mows the lawn, gardens, and does general up-keep. Have a dead battery or get stuck in the snow? Mark is the one to call!!

Bo Bo, Director of Hospitality

Bo Bo is the newest member of The Phineas Swann family. He is very fond of barking and nipping at your heels, and is proud of his bird-hunting skills. As the director of hospitality, you can count on him for giving you hours of pleasure watching him run around in circles chasing his tail. He loves to cuddle with you by the fire in the evenings, and is great at keeping everyone happy and occupied. If you need to know where the closest squirrel nest is, Bo Bo is your man.

Emma, Welcoming Committee Director

Emma is the senior dog in our family, and is very proud of her position as the “greeter” at the Phineas Swann. We have no need of a door bell in our inn, for Emma will certainly let us know when you arrive at our doorstep. Her ferocious barks belie her very sweet nature, as she will cover you with wet kisses if you let her. She will be happy to help you with your luggage, especially if it includes a teddy bear, her favorite type of chew toy.

Phinnie, Cuddler-in-Chief

Phinnie is a real sweetie. We adopted her from New Hampshire Bulldog Rescue, and she was only 6.5 months old when we got her. We have always wanted a bulldog, but did not want to add to the excess pet population and had promised ourselves that the next dog we purchased would be from a shelter. She is fawn and white, and our official representative. She welcomes any and all bulldogs to come and play with her when they visit!!

"Such a luxurious treat staying here and being pampered by Jay and John. We forgot about our busy lives for three days, and as a result our spirits have been rejuvenated!! Thank you again and we will be back next season!!"

- Dina, Jim, Bayley and Jackson

"My friends and I have stayed at the Inn many times, and have always had a delightful time. The renovations are truly spectacular. They certainly express your individual talents, creativity, and high standards of caring. Emmy was extremely helpful and made me feel right at home. She is really a treasure. I loved Emma and Bo Bo the Dogs!!!"

Living in Montgomery Center, Vermont

Montgomery Center's Main Street is one of Vermont's registered Historic Sites. Most of the houses on it go back to the mid-1880s when this town was the center of the booming lumber trade.

One of the most wonderful things about living in Montgomery Center, Vermont, is the wonderful people that live here. From the first time we visited, we were welcomed with open arms, and we feel that the people who live in this small town are the most charming people we have ever met.

The small village of Montgomery, with Mountain Fiber Folk and Trout River Traders restaurant, was right up our alley. Such a wonderful community... We truly enjoyed our time here in friendly Montgomery. Thank you, Jay, John, Karen, Emmy and Gwen. You made our visit an unexpected treat and we look forward to returning.

- Audrey, Tom and Moka
