Restaurants in the Jay/Montgomery Area 

If you choose to venture out there are several restaurants in the Montgomery area to choose from. Most of these eateries are within walking distance, as we are located right on Main Street. 

These restaurants are open most of the year, and in the Winter Ski Season and Fall Foliage Season, there are approximately 15 other restaurants open within an a half hour drive of our front door. We are more than happy to make reservations at any of these restaurants for you, which we recommend on weekends, as they often fill up during the high season months.

Right down the road and within easy walking distance even after a filling meal —Bernie's is one of our favorite restaurants in town. It's famous for its Mexican nights.
 

Montgomery Pizza & Subs

Directly across the road from the inn (no kidding - about 30 paces away), Montgomery Pizza is a charming local eatery offering sandwiches, snacks, light fare, and of course, pizza!  Their emphasis is on fresh, wholesome, local ingredients. Since Montgomery Pizza is so close, it is very convenient for our guests to order take out to enjoy in the Phineas Swann's dining areas or gardens.

Bettie, the owner of Montgomery Pizza and Subs, also provides catering services for local events.
 

The Snowshoe Pub

At the end of Main Street in Montgomery Center, about a gentle 10 minute walk from the inn, The Snowshoe Pub is a great place for a casual meal where you can hang out with the locals and watch the latest games on their wide screen television or shoot a game of pool.
 

The Belfry

We also are very fond of the casual Belfry Restaurant, located in a renovated mid-1800's school house a few miles up the road (and within approximately a 5 minute drive) on the way to Jay Peak Ski Resort. Chantal is the owner and chef there, and we are sure you will love her cooking as much as we do!
 

Cota's Restaurant at Cedarwood Resort

Located in Jay, about 8 miles from the Phineas Swann (approximately 10 minutes away by car), Cota's restaurant serves everything from pizza to Steak Alfredo. On Fridays and Saturdays there is either a DJ or a band. And, you can enjoy the fireplace and splendid mountain views.
 

Black Bear Restaurant

Located in Jay, about 8 miles from the Phineas Swann (approximately 10 minutes away by car), the Black Bear Restaurant at the Jay Village Inn offers dine in or take-out. Nightly dinner specials include pasta and fresh seafood. Restaurant Hours are: 4pm-9pm Sunday-Thursday and 4pm-10pm Friday & Saturday.

(Montgomery Pizza & Subs) is a very tiny place, but the food is out of this world delicious. The owner uses a lot of organic and local ingredients. The portions are really good and the prices are great. All bread for sandwiches is homemade as well as the other baked goods available.

While staying at the Phineas Swann B&B, we were looking for local restaurants that offered a wide variety of choices, good vegetarian selections, and a taste of local flavor. We found all of that and more at Montgomery Pizza and Subs, ordering 4 meals in two days! Their subs are made with homemade bread made fresh every morning. The burritos are HUGE and (relatively) healthy and delicious. We ordered a creative pizza called the Vermonter. We were suspicious (how good can maple syrup, cheddar cheese, sausage, and apple slices with a white sauce really taste?) but it was just incredibly good. No matter what we ordered, everything was delicious.

Bernie's is right in Montgomery Center, we could walk from the Phineas Swann where we were staying. We were in the area for 6 nights and we ate there 3 out of the six night. Not because it was the only place in Montgomery Center, but because it was the best. It has the most scumptious MEXICAN food two nights a week - it was the authentic Mexican. The staff were very friendly . I wish I could find Mexican food that good here in the big city.
