Local Dining

If you choose to venture out there are several restaurants in the Montgomery area to choose from. Most of these eateries are within walking distance, as we are located right on Main Street.
These restaurants are open most of the year, and in the Winter Ski Season and Fall Foliage Season, there are approximately 15 other restaurants open within a half hour drive of our front door. We are more than happy to make reservations at any of these restaurants for you, which we recommend on weekends, as they often fill up during the high season months.
Bernie’s Restaurant
72 Main Street, Montgomery Center, VT
(802) 326-4456
Right down the road (a 2-minute walk!) Bernie’s is one of our favorite restaurants in town. It’s chef-owned and famous for its Mexican nights (Mondays & Thursdays) but even on those nights it always offers its traditional menu. Eat in the front if you want to be seen; eat in the back if you want to be near the bar where the locals hang out. Closed for dinner Tuesday night. $$
The Belfry
14 Amandon Road, Montgomery Center, VT
(802) 326-4400
We also are very fond of the casual Belfry Restaurant, located in a renovated mid-1800’s school house a few miles up the road (and within a 5-minute drive) on the way to Jay Peak Ski Resort. The menu is great, but most impressive are the specials that are posted every night on the blackboard as you enter. Good luck choosing just one! Closed Mondays. $$$
The Snowshoe Pub
13 Main Street, Montgomery Center, VT
(802) 326-4456
At the end of Main Street in Montgomery Center, a 3-minute walk from our door, The Snowshoe Pub is a great place for a casual meal where you can hang out with the locals and watch the latest games on their wide-scren TVs or shoot a game of pool. You’ll have a good chance of finding the owners, Pete & Joe, behind the bar with a smile and a good story. There’s usually a DJ on Friday nights and live music on Saturdays. Closed Mondays. $$.
The Black Lantern
2057 North Main Street, Montgomery, VT
(802) 326-3269
The Black Lantern is a historic restaurant located just 2 miles from our door, in the village of Montgomery. It offers an impressive farm-to-table menu with a local chef the provides plenty of options, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan menu items. Closed Mondays & Tuesdays. $$
Big Jay Tavern
3709 Mountain Road, Montgomery Center, VT
(802) 326-6688
Located halfway between the Phineas Swann & Jay Peak Resort (approximately 6 minutes by car) , this new addition to Montgomery Center’s restaurant scene is the perfect apres ski dining location, with half-portions available and a lodge-like decor. Hours are: 4pm-9pm Sunday-Thursday and 4pm-10pm Friday & Saturday. $$
Jay Village Inn Restaurant
1078 Route 242, Jay, VT
(802) 988-2306
Located in Jay, about 8 miles from the Phineas Swann (approximately 12 minutes away by car), the Black Bear Restaurant at the Jay Village Inn offers dine in or take-out. Nightly dinner specials include pasta and fresh seafood. Restaurant Hours are: 4pm-9pm Sunday-Thursday and 4pm-10pm Friday & Saturday. $$$
The INN
241 Main Street, Montgomery Center, VT
(802) 326-4391
Located next door to the Phineas Swann, this restaurant boasts an outstanding bar and an inventive chef with a menu that changes regularly but always has something interesting to offer. It’s the most expensive restaurant in town, but the decor is exceptional, and you can choose to eat in the bar area or the more formal dining room up front. Open Thursdays through Sunday only. $$$$
