Dog Friendly

Nationally recognized by CNN as one of the World’s 12 Most Dog-Friendly Hotels, Phineas Swann Inn & Spa is a dog-friendly Jay Peak bed and breakfast you’ll want to come back to again and again. We provide our four-legged guests with their own comfy dog beds, water and food bowls, special treats and lots of love. Should you need us to take your dog for a walk while you’re out hiking or skiing, our staff is happy to do so for a modest gratuity.

Many hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts in Vermont claim to offer dog friendly lodging. They invite you to travel with your dog, but once you’ve arrived, you find that the best rooms are reserved for those without dogs, while you and your dog are directed to the oldest and ugliest accommodations. On top of the less-than-lovely lodging, you have to pay a three-figure pet charge, including a safety deposit. If you’ve ever experienced this kind of ‘dog-friendly vacation’, you’ll find Phineas Swann Inn & Spa to be a refreshing change.

Come stay at our dog friendly Jay Peak inn — your dog deserves a vacation too!

Petiquette

We do ask a few small favors from our two-legged guests when they bring their fur-baby to Phineas Swann Inn & Spa:

  • We are pleased to welcome dogs of all sizes and breeds, from Great Danes to Chihuahuas.

  • We charge a one-time $50 for your first dog, and a $50 one-time fee for each additional dog up to three, to assist with cleaning costs. Dogs must be current on their rabies vaccinations, fully housebroken and kept on a leash when outside your room.

  • Our inn does not charge a damage deposit; however, we hope you understand that any damage that may be caused by your dog is your responsibility.

  • Phineas Swann Inn & Spa does not charge an extra cleaning fee for visitors who travel with dogs, although we do ask you to remember the hard work of the cleaning staff and figure an extra gratuity if there is a lot of hair to clean.

  • Dogs are invited to swim in the Trout River that borders our property and hike on nearby hiking trails. We’ll even provide towels to dry them off!
  • Dogs are invited to stay in our Birch Suite, Bulldog Suite, Terrier Suite, and Green Mountain Suite in our Carriage House, and the Black Bear and Trout RiverSuites of our River House Cottage. All these suites are our largest and most luxurious units.

  • Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed in the Main House since we serve food there. Rooms in the Main Inn, including the Common Areas, maintain a dog-free environment for the comfort of our guests who may be allergic. Guests with dogs are invited to enjoy sitting outside by the Trout River, or on the back deck of the Main House.

  • Well-behaved dogs may stay unattended in rooms, but please consider crating your dog if your canine friend tends to be mischievous or is likely to hop on the bed. You are welcome to leave your dog in your room while you are out, as long as they are not destructive and won’t bark and disrupt guests in adjacent rooms.
  • Dog beds, food and water bowls, dog-walking services, special dog towels, and dog treats are available. Please tell us your needs when making your reservation so we can be prepared to accommodate your dog in regal style.

  • Please use a leash when outside for your dog’s and others’ safety

  • Dogs must be housebroken, but accidents happen - if they do in your room, just let us know.

  • Please pick up after your dog outside. Bag stations & trashcans are on the sides of the River & Carriage Houses.

  • Try to walk on the drives or roads rather than grass if you can.

  • Please ask your dog to stay off the bedding - they can have bed privileges, but we need to charge $75 for deep cleaning.

  • If you’d like for us to take your fur-baby for a walk while you’re out, let us know at breakfast and our team is happy to do so for just a tip.

Meet Maple

Meet Maple, a darling Shitzu full of energy. Nine years old, she’s a guest favorite, especially our younger ones. She’s soft, she’s fluffy, and she’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face during your stay. She sits on Lynne’s desk and yips whenever a car pulls into the parking area to let us know you’ve arrived.
